The timeline of the SEA year
The timeline of the SEA year (from Standard 4 to Results).

Standard 4 is the start of SEA preparation for most students. Normally the same teacher is used for Standard 4 and 5 to make the transition smoother.
Student scores will generally see a big drop at Standard 4 as students meet more demanding questions. Standard 4 is where students learn the bulk (but not all) of the SEA content.
It is rare for teachers to complete the syllabus by the end of Standard 4. The SEA syllabus is normally only completed by the end of Term 1 in Standard 5.
----
Between Standard 4 and 5 is a two-month gap for the July-August vacation. This is generally a nice, long, relatively stress-free period of time that parents can (and should ! ) work with their child individually to sure-up Standard 4 work.
If you child needs special concessions for the SEA exam, normally you are required to submit that very early to the Ministry of Education. Please check their website or call them or the exact deadline (again it is usually very early).
----
Standard 5 is generally where more parents start becoming very concerned. It shouldn't be like that, but it is.
Very early on in Term 1 Std 5 - there will be a meeting by the school administration to educate parents about picking school choices.
If your child attends a public primary school, the school will be doing the SEA registration for you child. They will request a copy of the Birth Certificate (if a national). You will also have to fill out a form with your four school choices and other information.
If you are a private candidate (home schooled or private), please check the Ministry of Education website as there is an earlier registration deadline.
The SEA Exam normally takes place at the end of Term 2 in Standard 5.
Results are normally released about 3 months from that date (near the end of Term 3)
